The Business Continuity Institute (BCI) has published its latest Business Continuity Good Practice Guidelines, Edition 7.0. The Guidelines incorporate new processes and terminologies, including reference to the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) rather than the previously used Business Continuity Lifecycle.
The BCMS supports the organisation’s strategic objectives, including:
- Identification of operational risk sources
- Creation of response structures and plans
- Promotion of validation and continuous improvement
The BCMS is intended to be scalable and applicable to all sectors and organisations, regardless of complexity, size or location.
The Good Practice Guidelines also references international standards, allowing compliance with any national and international laws. The existing six Professional Practices remain, which are split into two management practices – Establishing a BCMS and Embracing Business Continuity – along with four technical practices: Analysis; Solutions Design; Enabling Solutions; and Validation.
