JCOP – Protection of Fire on Construction Site amendments

5 August 2025

The Fire Prevention Association has recently introduced a further amendment (2) to the Joint Code of Practice on the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings undergoing Renovation 10th Edition.

This incorporates changes to Section 13 in relation to Temporary Building and Temporary Accommodation. The key points to note are:

  • Temporary buildings manufactured before 1st January 2025 which met the 9th JCOP Edition requirements will continue to be accepted provided they are suitably maintained and protections remain in place – particularly structural integrity, fire detection and alarms, electrical maintenance and fire doors.
  • Temporary buildings sited above the site or highway to meet specified construction requirements contained in Section 13.3 b) to k).
  • 13.3 b) allows the use of temporary buildings tested under LPCB LPS1195 – full scale cabin/module testing – as an alternative to testing of individual components referenced in 13.3 d) to k).
  • 13.3 f) has been revised to offer an alternative approach to the provision of automatic self-closing devices on doors and windows in certain circumstances. References to shutters also added.
  • 13.6 in relation to stacked cabins requires the floor/roof assembly to achieve 30 minute (REI) fire resistance from inside the cabin to the external side and supporting members to achieve 30 minute (R) fire resistance to BS EN 13501-2 (ref 23) or British national equivalent test(s).
