Enhanced security measures for all vehicles

1 September 2023

As vehicle thefts continue to rise, criminals are constantly evolving their tactics to steal vehicles. Homes, driveways, and even secure car parks are no longer safe from theft. Many insurance providers now require specific measures in place to include theft coverage within a policy.

To ensure that you are adequately protected, it is essential to ensure that you are up to date with the ever-changing requirements of insurers.

Criminals are finding new ways of stealing vehicles. Thefts are at a record high and vehicles which may not have been targeted in the past are being taken from homes, driveways and secure car parks, using techniques such as key cloning and relay attacks.

Insurers require that certain vehicles are fitted with trackers to include theft cover within a policy. It is now more important than ever to ensure that you comply with your tracker requirement endorsed on your policy.

A tracker must be installed and remain operational with an active subscription. Even if there is no tracker requirement in your policy, we would always advise that it is sensible to install one to reduce your risk profile and protect your assets. An additional level of security to consider is an aftermarket immobiliser. Immobilisers can provide another line of defence should a criminal gain access as they would not be able to start the engine without a code or password.

One key thing to remember, no active subscription or no operational tracker as stipulated in your policy means no theft cover. Don’t get caught out.
