Our History
The history of Adam Brothers Contingency can be traced back to 1874 when it was formed to trade as a Lloyd's
Broker dealing with the Adam family's hull, cargo and other business interests. It has now developed into a
specialised broking operation working within the London and international insurance markets.
Since the 1950's, Adam Brothers Contingency has gained international recognition as a premier broker of
contingency insurances acting predominantly in the wholesale market dealing with and for most broking
houses and many national/multinational companies and financial institutions. Adam Brothers Contingency has
developed numerous bespoke policy covers and products over the years, covering diverse areas of risk and
peril. The expertise and depth of knowledge held 'in-house' is well respected by those who work in the niche
product area and by an ever-expanding client base.
Lloyd's and insurance company markets have in many instances allowed Adam Brothers Contingency to underwrite on
their behalf with binding authorities. Adam Brothers Contingency currently operate a general contingency binding
authority and a high-value vehicle binding authority and these allow us to respond promptly with detailed
quotations. Coupled with these authorities Adam Brothers Contingency holds line slip facilities which ensure that
substantial market capacity is readily available. The scope of these facilities and authorities is unique to
Adam Brothers Contingency and sets us apart from others in this field of insurance. They ensure that our expertise
coupled with speed and efficiency, enable us to deliver a wide range of premier products and risk transfer of
which we are rightly proud – essential in the wholesale market.
In December 2007, the Adam Brothers Contingency team became part of Griffiths & Armour Global Risks,
the Lloyd's Broker owned by Griffiths & Armour whose Head Office is in Liverpool. Further information about
