Event cancellation/abandonment insurance
Adam Brothers Contingency can arrange effective and comprehensive coverage for cancellation, abandonment,
postponement, interruption, curtailment or relocation of any type of outdoor or indoor event. Cover has
previously been arranged for events as small as summer fetes through to major international conferences/exhibitions and sporting events such as the Rugby World Cup and the Cricket World Cup.
Our markets can protect against most scenarios and if ever a client was unsure of the need for purchasing
cover of this nature, the examples below should highlight the reasons for having such cover in place.
-
The untimely death of HRH Princess Diana in 1997 resulted in many events being cancelled, abandoned or
postponed as a mark of respect. Along with many other events throughout the UK and indeed the World, the
entire West End theatre scene in London cancelled performances on the day of her funeral and successfully
claimed under their cancellation policies.
-
The cancellation/postponement of numerous events in 2001 such as the Cheltenham Festival and a number of
Six Nations rugby games due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease and the postponement of the Ryder
Cup as a result of the tragic incident on the 11th September that same year have highlighted the value of
this coverage.
-
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina caused many losses in the contingency market. Large conference centres and
exhibition halls were either left severely damaged or requisitioned by the authorities to provide shelter
to the thousands left homeless in the Gulf region of the United States and this caused the cancellation or
re-scheduling of hundreds of planned events at those venues. We can provide cover to venue owners/operators,
event organisers and the like against risks such as this. Indeed, cover of this nature is a must for balance
sheet protection.
Loss of total expenditure or gross revenue (including profit) can be insured as a result of cancellation or
abandonment of an event due to almost any circumstance.
Loss of or damage to a venue, strikes, non-appearance of key persons are typical of the perils covered by the
policies we effect with Lloyd's underwriters and major European insurance companies.
Whilst elements of cover such as terrorism, communicable disease and national mourning
are not included as part
of a standard event cancellation policy, cover can easily be extended to include any or all of these.
Our binding authority/line slip facility with Lloyd's underwriters allied to our experience and expertise
enables us to provide comprehensive and competitive coverage for your clients particularly in the area of
unusual or exotic risks.
