Retention of Documents – how long is long enough?

In our role as Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance advisers, the question as to how long documents should be maintained is frequently raised. It is a question that can initially appear innocuous – however, with factors such as professional liability and compliance with insurance policy obligations at play, it is actually a matter that has the potential to be of great significance.

With many practices struggling with burgeoning documentation, deciding when it is appropriate and finally safe to destroy files is of increasing importance.
